Welcome

IMG_1270 We did it!!!  Rachael and John Calvert have successfully completed the original Banger Challenge! Together with hundreds of others from across the globe, team Banger & Smash drove 4,228 miles from the UK to Banjul in The Gambia, crossing the Sahara Desert in their dodgy old car, all in the name of charity and a bit of good old-fashioned adventure.

Find out how we got on by following our daily blog, starting with Day One

The event was inspired by the Paris-Dakar, where contestants spend hundreds of thousands getting their professionally prepared cars to Dakar.  We, in contrast, travelled unaided in a car costing peanuts. The motto of the event is "No money, No sense, No worries".  We might add. "plain bonkers!"

Why Banger & Smash?  Well you could say that John is getting on a bit and is a bit of a banger, and that Rachael is a smasher, but in fact it's because we took a banger and gave it a bit of a bashing in the Sahara.

Mainly, it was for charity.  We have raised over £2,800 for the Cure Pakinson's Trust and are still looking for more.  We also raised over £600 for charities in The Gambia through the sale of the car.  So if you like what we've done why not click on www.justgiving.com/bangerandsmash
